SUBLIME GRACIA

Fue escrita por John Newton, clérigo y poeta inglés, comerciante de esclavos en la primera etapa de su vida, actividad en la que destacó por su crueldad y abyección, conductas de las que se arrepintió para convertirse en pastor protestante y escribir ése y muchos otros himnos. “Amazing Grace” es su obra más conocida, cantada por multitud de iglesias de todo el mundo. 
A pesar de su oscuro pasado, John Newton fue un destacado abolicionista que luchó para erradicar de Inglaterra el comercio de esclavos.

Dicen los Textos Sagrados eternos:

"Para el indigno todas las puertas están cerradas menos una..,     la del arrepentimiento"

     Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound
     That saved a wretch like me
     I once was lost, but now I´m found
     Was blind, but now I see
     
     T´was grace that taught my heart to fear
     And grace muy fears relieved
     How precious did that grace appear
     The hour I first believed
     
     Trough many dangers, toils and snares
     We have already come 
     This grace hath brought me safe thus far
     And grace will lead me home
     
     The Lord has promised good to me
     His word my hope secures;
     He will my shield and portion be
     As long as life endures.
